Our Story

A collection of dental practices now 30+ locations strong, Light Dental Studios began its humble journey as the second-ever dentist in Puyallup, Washington all the way back in 1971.  

In the spirit of many other revolutionary start-ups, Dr. James P. Zanner established the company by renovating his own mobile home into a dental office, the original location of which sits just across from the current South Hill Mall. Known for his exceedingly gentle touch and commitment to the latest dental innovations, Dr. Zanner built relationships that have managed to last entire lifetimes, not the least of which because he gave “shots that didn’t hurt,” a testament to his expertise and compassion both.  

Today, Light Dental acts as a hub to 60+ dentists across multiple specialties, each equipped with the necessary skills and technology to tackle any number of tooth-related issues. As the company remains privately owned, it retains that coveted small-business feel, while still having over 300 staff members to cater to its ever-growing clientele. In its current iteration with Dr. Steve Broughton and Dr. Angie Dunn at the helm, the dentistry maintains its original purpose and commitment to Dr. Zanner’s legacy in continuing to provide a one-stop shop for oral excellence that puts accessibility, affordability, and reliability at the forefront.
